Old-Fashioned Pound Cake
This recipe is close to 200 years old….
Make 1 cake
- 9 lg eggs (separated)
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups butter
- 4 cups all-purpose flour (sifted)
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp lemon extract
Beat egg yolks until fluffy; gradually add sugar, beating until mixture turns pale yellow.
Cream butter until light and fluffy. Add and stir in flour, baking powder and salt. Add egg yolk mixture and mix well. Add lemon extract and unbeaten eggs whites, mix until well incorporated. Pour batter in a well-greased tube pan and bake at 300°F for 1 hour and 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center of cake comes out clean.
