  • 2 cups naval beans
  • 6 cups cold water
  • 5 pieces salt pork (2”L  x  1/4” thick)
  • 1 med onion (chopped)
  • ¼ tsp celery salt (optional)
  • Salt & pepper


Wash beans thoroughly and soak in cold water for 1 hour.  Drain water and place beans in a large saucepan. Add water, onions and salt pork. Season to taste. Cover and bring to a boil. Let simmer for 1 1/2 hours.  Stir occasionally.  Cook until tender.  Serve with crusty buns and a good cup of steeped tea.
