saltjunk.com Up and Running…….

saltjunk.com Up and Running…….

Saltjunk.com is up and running with the exception of a few lost photos to accompany my recipes. I will be retiring from the Canadian Forces mid-Nov 2011.

I will devote my time and effort in creating and experimenting with old Newfoundland and Labrador recipes including new photos. If you have any recipes that your mom or grandmother has given you and you want to share with world, send them to me, I will try it and post it.

Having just completed a Chef’s course, my intention is to revisit some of my older recipes and make updates as required.  So stay tuned and visit often.

    Kevin,

Your site is looking great. I really like the Saltjunk Store. Also, your pictures are much more vibrant….I feel like I could take a piece of orange cornbread right off the plate.

  • Tina:

Congratulations on your retirement, Kevin. I am anxiously awaiting all the old recipes from Newfoundland cooking. I was born in Windsor/Grand Falls, Newfoundland, but moved to Toronto when I was 13. I still remember a lot of the Newfie cooking done by my Grandma and my Aunts when I lived in Newfoundland, so I can’t wait to try a lot of the old recipes.

    Thanks so much,
    Tina F.

      Hello Tina,

Thanks for the kind words…By the way, if you have some old recipes you want me to try, pass them on….I just finished part I of culinary management school and my philosophy with Newfoundland cooking is trying to create the same recipe on a healthier level. As you know in the past, we have cooked with lots of salt, animal fat and so on. I have tried a few already, not the same favourable as was cooked by our Grandmas, Moms and Aunts, however, pretty close. Please note that I have a few up on my site now; try them out, let me know how it turns out. You will notice that my recipes are original and if you use the tips at the bottom of each recipe you will get the healthy meal as was stated above.
      Kevin
